It is no longer a surprise when Powell (Ohio) Olentangy Liberty offensive lineman Ben Wrather adds another scholarship offer.
Wrather, who is becoming one of the top offensive line prospects in Ohio for the 2020 recruiting class, added another handful of offers with some catching his attention.
First Star Football Report spoke with the 6-foot-5, 285-pound Wrather about each of his new offers.
When looking at schools for both academics and football, Ivy League schools have it all. Academics are important to me and something I’m looking at in schools in general. I’m definitely considering all options right now.
I visited about two weeks ago and spoke with Coach (James) Franklin and Coach (Matt) Limegrover, the offensive line coach. I loved everything I saw as I got to watch practice and it was cool seeing the guys work hard. I got to sit down in Coach Franklin’s office, and he said they liked my film. He said they were going to do a little more research and then on Tuesday, they offered. Penn State is special and growing up watching all these big programs on television and now to think that one day, it could be me people are watching is pretty crazy.
I hadn’t talked much with Indiana. But Coach (Darren) Hiller reached out to me on Twitter and when we talked, he offered me. I’ve not visited yet, but in the next few weeks I’m trying to get my schedule set to visit. I must admit I don’t know much about them, so I’ve got to do my research. One guy from my high school, Hunter Littlejohn, is a fifth-year senior, but I’ve not talked with him. I’m looking forward to meeting Coach Hiller and start building a relationship.
I’ve not been talking with them that long but called Coach (Vince) Marrow on Wednesday night and he said they wanted to extend an offer. The coaching staff was all together when I called, and they passed the phone around and I spoke with Coach (Eddie) Gran and Coach (John) Schlarman. They were all out at a restaurant and they just wanted to say hello. They have a lot of guys on their roster from Ohio and with it being my first Southeastern Conference offer, it’s pretty cool.
Like many young players, Wrather was hopeful schools would show interest. However, he knows at some point he’ll have to make a life changing decision.
First off, I’m just really blessed to receive all these offers and opportunities. I’m still evaluation a lot of things and looking into a lot of programs. As for any official visits, I’ve not decided yet but open to whenever the time comes. I’m probably looking to decide before my senior year. However, that all depends as I’m not going to force a decision if I don’t feel completely comfortable where I am at the time.
