We shine the commitment spotlight on Cincinnati (Ohio) Colerain safety/linebacker Deshawn Pace who gave Luke Fickell and the Cincinnati Bearcats his pledge.

FIRST STAR RANKING
3/5

HOMETOWN: CINCINNATI
STATE: OHIO
HIGH SCHOOL: COLERAIN
HT: 6-3 | WT: 195 LBS
HIGH SCHOOL POSITION: SAFETY
PROJECTS: SAFETY/LINEBACKER
CLASS: 2020

WHAT TO LIKE ABOUT DESHAWN PACE

Long athlete with above average ball skills showing soft hands and solid eye-hand coordination and concentration. Not afraid to come up and be physical in supporting against the run with the ability to play off blockers while also showing range in pass coverage. Also shows willingness to make plays on special teams. This area should allow Pace to have a chance to get on the field early in his college career. Great frame to work with allowing him to be a player who could line up at safety or bulk up and become an outside linebacker.

WHAT IS A CONCERN ABOUT DESHAWN PACE

One area of concern when watching Pace in live action and on film is his willingness to lead with his head when making tackles. While not afraid to be physical, Pace puts his head in position to take blows when making a tackle. While he might be able to get away with this at the high school level, in college he’ll run the risk of having possible concussion issues as the game speeds up and the players get bigger, stronger and faster.

OVERALL ON DESHAWN PACE

Luke Fickell and his staff have stressed like many Cincinnati coaching staffs before the importance of getting local talent to stay home. Pace is one of the latest hometown prospects to pledge to the Bearcats coming from one of the top programs in Ohio in 2018 Division One state runner-up Colerain. All the tools are there for Pace to have a solid college career as he’s a long skill athlete on the defensive side of the ball. It will be interesting to see how Pace develops in the coming years once he’s in a college strength and conditioning program. As we stated, Pace shows the willingness to play on special teams and that will help him see playing time early in college.

CINCINNATI BEARCATS RECRUITMENT GRADE

This is an “A” grade for Luke Fickell and the UC Bearcats in getting Pace out of Colerain. With his brother, Ivan Pace heading to Miami Ohio this fall, getting Deshawn in the fold now over the RedHawks is a big recruiting win. Add in the fact he’s a long framed defensive skill guy with the potential to play a couple of positions should add to the excitement for the Bearcats fan base.
