Of all the schools First Star Football Report stopped at during recent spring evaluation events, West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West gave us two possible future national recruits with huge upside.

One of those players is 6-foot-2, 180-pound Class of 2022 defensive back Alex Afari.

What did Afari think about working out in front of so many college coaches?

“It was really fun and a good experience for all of us,” said Afari.

For the Firebirds change is in the air with new head coach Tom Bolden taking over the program. How has Afari found the changes so far?

“The changes have been great,” he said. “Coach Bolden has made us stronger, made us work hard and made us compete.”

What does Afari feel he needs to work on and what is his strength on the field?

“I need to continue working on my feet and speed,” he continued. “I feel I’m strong in covering guys, especially on deep routes. I can jump high so any jump ball, I feel I can go up and get.”

With all the recent attention Afari knows of two camps he’d like to take part in but is also open to others.

“I want to go to camp at Cincinnati and Tennessee too,” he said. “But any college wanting me to come to camp I’m going to try and go.”

Recently Afari watched another former Firebird get drafted in the NFL Draft when George Asafo-Adjei was selected by the New York Giants. What was it like watching someone from his high school get drafted?

“It was really cool,” he stressed. “I know George and he tells me to keep working hard. He’s like a big brother to me, so it was cool and I’m really excited for him. In fact, he called us when it happened, and it was crazy.”

As for this fall Afari feels teams will need to take notice of the Firebirds.

“Just wait cause we’re bringing it this year,” he stressed. “There is a new excitement here and our coaches have us fired up. So, we’re going to be good this year.”
