IS AHREK LAMB OHIO’S BIGGEST HIDDEN GEM?

If you’re looking for Ohio’s biggest hidden gem in the 2020 recruiting class, it might well be Cincinnati (Ohio) Withrow wide receiver Ahrek Lamb.

During the Cincinnati Public Schools combine, Lamb was one of the biggest surprises and coaches in attendance from Division II, Division III and NAIA took notice of the 6-foot-7, 215-pound wide receiver.

“This was my first combine ever,” said Lamb. “I enjoyed myself and while we covered some things, I didn’t know I could do, I had a fun time.”

With many eyes watching his every move, Lamb caught everyone by surprise when he got to the vertical jump testing.

“The first time, I cleared it,” he said. “The second time, they raised it as high as it could go, and I cleared it again.”

The testing wasn’t done on a jump pad but the same way colleges and the NFL test locking out the arm before setting the slats.

In the past Lamb had focused on basketball. However, that is changing as he looks to see if football could be the sport that paves the way for him to attend college.

“I’m trying to play for the first time my senior year,” explained Lamb. “This is the first time I’ve really played, but I’m hoping to earn some scholarships to go to college.”

It didn’t take long for Lamb to see rewards for his day.

“I’ve now got offers from Central State and West Virginia State,” he said. “They are both looking at me and I’m looking forward to learning more about them. It’s amazing to be able to show colleges your skills and let colleges know what you’re capable of.

As for advice to others who may look to switch up sports late in their high school career Lamb has the following advice.

“Just go for it because anything you want to do; you can do by going out and going for it.”

College coaches will be intrigued by the physical size of Lamb when he shows up on campus. He must show the ability to catch the ball and some understanding of running routes to turn heads at the Division I level. However, some program might be willing to take a flyer and look to develop him into a possible touchdown weapon in the red zone.
