Over the years the Centerville (Ohio) Elks have enjoyed the skill sets of some of the area’s top kickers.

Sophomore Brendan Salo is hoping to grow into that role in only his first year of kicking in high school.

Friday night, First Star Football Report spoke with Salo about his game and future goals.

“I feel I did everything I could tonight,” said Salo. “The holder and the snapper did a great job and it was an A+ performance for all three of us.

For Salo the past is also very present as he wears former Elks kicker Mike Nugent’s jersey number (85) and trains with another former Elks kicker Andrew Gantz.

Still learning the small parts of the kicking game, Salo feels he’s headed on the right track.

“I’ve been kicking for only about five months,” he said. “In mid-June, I met Andrew Gantz on the field here and have been training with him once every other week. “He’s got me right as before working with him, I didn’t know how to kick. However, now I feel I’m pretty good.”

Going forward Salo has some pretty simple plans.

“I plan on kicking all three years I have left here at Centerville,” he said. “Any teams that want to give me a chance to perform for their team, I’m going to take it and work as hard as I can to get there. I’m going to continue training in the off-season and get better. My goal is to be 100-percent out there every night.”
