COACH BRENT ULLERY REACHES BACK IN TIME TO INSPIRE ELKS TO WIN OVER WAYNE

For Centerville head coach Brent Ullery, the Elks win over rival Huber Heights Wayne brought back memories of games from years past.

Growing up in the Elks football program and now being the teams head coach is more than just a coaching job, it’s a passion to carry on the long traditions of the Elks successful program.

After last seasons 2-8 record, Ullery kept the faith knowing the future was bright with several young players set to return including sophomore quarterback Chase Harrison.

Opening the season 0-2 with losses to Fairfield and Lakota West (combined 10-2) had some wondering if the Elks were headed down the same path as last season. Ullery refused to allow his team to overthink their struggles of last season or the early losses this year and watched as they responded with a three-game winning streak coming into an always important game against rival Wayne.

The Elks and Warriors didn’t disappoint with another classic battle that went down to the very end when Harrison hit sophomore Cameron Smith for the game winning touchdown with 30-seconds remaining in the game and a 27-21 win.

As Ullery told First Star Football Report following the game, his team was reminded of the importance of their longtime rivalry with the Warriors prior to the game and after the win coaches and players took part in a long locker room celebration that carried on as the team boarded buses for the short ride back to Centerville.
