FIRST STAR LOGISTICS PLAYER OF THE WEEK STATE SEMIFINALS

Three Southwest Ohio teams are headed to Canton with the goal of bringing home state titles next weekend. This past weekend, players from each of these squads stepped forward in helping their teams reach their next goal.

Voting is open until Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. when you’ll have picked the First Star Logistics Player of the Week for their State Semifinals performance. Two players from each school are up for your consideration.

SAMMY ANDERSON – TROTWOOD-MADISON

The senior two-way player and future Cincinnati Bearcats signee came up big in the Rams win over Bishop Hartley to advance to the state title game. Anderson had two receptions for 61-yards and two touchdowns plus a touchdown on a 40-yard punt return to go with a forced fumble and seven solo tackles on defense in the Rams 24-19 win. The Rams will face Mansfield Senior on Friday, December 6 at 3:00 p.m. for the Division III title.

CARL BLANTON JR – TROTWOOD-MADISON

The senior has yet to decide if he’ll play football or basketball at the next level but continues to show he’s got a bright future on the gridiron if he chooses. In the Rams 24-19 win over Bishop Hartley, Blanton posted seven total tackles and two interceptions to help the Rams advance to another state title game where they’ll face Mansfield Senior.

COLTON SANDHAS – ELDER

In a hard-fought game against Springfield, Sandhas posted eight total tackles (7 solo) plus an interception in the Panthers 31-24 win over the Panthers to advance to the Division I state title game against Pickerington Central on Friday, December 6 at 8:00 p.m. Sandhas led the Greater Catholic League South in tackles this season and has 121 total tackles this season.

MATTHEW LUEBBE – ELDER

It’s been a great season for the senior quarterback and again he played a key role in the Panthers 31-24 win over Springfield with 114 rushing yards and going 20-of-27 for 221 yards and two touchdowns passing. Luebbe will need to continue to play big when the Panthers take on Pickerington Central in the Division I title game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. in Canton.

GI’BRAN PAYNE – LA SALLE

Only a sophomore, Payne has been impressive this season despite playing several games in a case. Friday night Payne came up big in the Lancers 35-21 win over Toledo Central Catholic on offense and defense. Defensively Payne posted 11 tackles, forced a fumble and had a sack while on offense he rushed for 46 yards on seven carries while also having one reception for a 59-yard touchdown.

CAMERON PORTER – LA SALLE

The future Northwestern Wildcats running back continues to show he’s not a one-way player by posting five tackles on defense to go with 103 rushing yards and a touchdown to go with another 24 yards receiving in the Lancers 35-21 win over Toledo Central Catholic.
