Branden McDonald Expects Big Things

Last season Branden McDonald stepped forward for Kettering (Ohio) Alter as they turned a season opening loss to crosstown rival Fairmont into a 13-game winning streak and appearance in the Division Three state title game.

While the ending didn’t go the way McDonald or his teammates had planned with a loss, it did give the Knights some offseason motivation with the first step coming in the annual season opener against Fairmont.

A 21-7 win over Fairmont gave McDonald and his teammates some satisfaction. However, bigger things are expected.

“We worked hard for this all offseason and have been waiting for this moment,” said McDonald. “Training, weight room every day, and we have to give a shout out to the boys up front tonight. This really feels good, but we expect another playoff drive to state and to get that ring.”

The 6-foot-1, 225-pound junior has already received interest from several program and picked up three early scholarship offers in the process.

“I’ve been talking with Ohio State, Purdue, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Toledo, Kent State and Akron,” he said. “I’ve got offers from Akron, Toledo and Kent State.”

As for where he might look to visit this fall McDonald knows trips to those who have offered already are a must along with a few other visits.

“I’m looking to visit Pitt for sure,” he said. “I’m also looking to visit Purdue and Ohio State.”

As for the early interest, McDonald knows he’s in a good position.

“It’s a blessing,” he stressed. “I want to thank God and my parents for helping me through it up to this point.”
