Tuesday was a big day for Cincinnati La Salle junior defensive back Jaylen Johnson as he ended his recruitment early with a verbal pledge to Ohio State. We shine the First Star Logistics Commitment Spotlight on the newest member of the Buckeyes 2021 recruiting class.

WHAT TO LIKE
There is so much to like about the newest Ohio State pledge. Built with a solid frame, Jaylen Johnson brings great burst and straight-line speed to the field and the willingness to play physical. Not afraid to come up and support stopping the run, Johnson has proven over the past two seasons to be one of the top players in Ohio against high-level competition.
WHAT IS A CONCERN
On film and live evaluations, Johnson is rarely asked to drop into coverage as the majority of plays sees him line up at safety keeping everything ahead of him. The physical tools are there for Johnson to add this to his game and is not a major concern. We feel that his future could be as an outside linebacker where his biggest need will be adding bulk to his frame as we’ve seen his listed at 200 to 210-pounds.
This is an early recruiting win for Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Johnson is one of the top prospects we’ve seen in Southwest Ohio over the past several years and we’re not surprised with his early offer list. On the field, Johnson shows a natural burst and willingness to deliver major hits are what sets him apart from others. If I had to compare his game to someone, I scouted in the past, it would be former Buckeye linebacker, Darron Lee.
