Northmont Head Coach Tony Broering Talks Big Win & More

The First Star Logistics Game of the Week proved to be another great match-up.

Springfield and Northmont battled for the top spot in the Greater Western Ohio Conference in a game that saw big plays on both sides, with the Wildcats holding a 28-14 advantage at the half.

Despite being down, Northmont head coach Tony Broering kept his squad focused, and after a scoreless third quarter, the Thunderbolts saw senior quarterback Cade Rice find a spark with standouts Rod Moore and Markus Allen to give the T-Bolts the lead late in the game.

Springfield junior quarterback Te’Sean Smoot didn’t back down and led the Wildcats on a drive that tied the game at 35 that forced overtime.

The Wildcats went on offense first but found the T-Bolts defense up to the challenge, forcing Cole Yost’s field goal attempt. Yost missed the kick, and Northmont could feel the cool breeze of a win hitting them in the face.

After three plays, Broering sent the first-year kicker Xavier Vuong in for a 28-yard attempt that was true, giving the T-Bolts a 38-35 win and the top spot in the Greater Western Ohio Conference.

After the game, First Star Football Report spoke with Northmont head coach Tony Broering in this exclusive interview presented by First Star Logistics.

Broering talked about his teams big win, top players and coaching and recruiting in a world with Covid-19.
