One player we’ve been impressed with the past couple of seasons has been Springboro (Ohio) offensive lineman Ryan Iiams.
While some may look for taller offensive linemen, Iiams has impressed in live evaluations and on film and shown to be one of the better technique linemen we’ve seen in Ohio for the 2021 recruiting class.
Wednesday, Iiams added his first scholarship offer from a program he’s got a high interest in.
“Just over a week ago, I started talking with Coach (Ron) Boyd from The Citadel,” said Iiams. “Coach Boyd is their offensive line coach and he said he loved my film and since then we’ve talked about every other day. He feels I can strive there with my test scores and GPA.
“Then Coach (Brent) Thompson, their head coach, followed me and he also said he loved my film. He then asked for my transcripts and test scores.
“Today, Coach Thompson asked me to call and he told me he felt I could thrive in their system. He stressed he couldn’t promise me a starting position, but would leave a better man, more disciplined, and have a great job when I graduate.”
With the country fighting through the Coronavirus, Iiams knows this is not a time to relax and continues working on his academic and athletic goals.
“The most important part is getting done what you can get done and not get behind in anything,” he stressed.
As for his interest in The Citadel, Iiams is very impressed with what he’s been told and the information he’s gathered so far.
“I love that The Citadel is a military academy,” he said. “As I told the coaches. I would love to take over my dad’s business and if I choose to do it, I know it would take a lot of discipline and leadership to do so. I told the coaches attending The Citadel would help me get there.”
